Recycled Pencils Can Be Fun

Recycled PencilI have been attending a lot of green events this spring. A common inexpensive giveaway is a pencil. Since I’m becoming concerned about the number of disposable ink pens I toss, I am going to start using pencils for things that do not have to be permanent such as grocery lists, crosswords, etc. I have not used pencils since elementary school.

A benefit of pencils is that they disappear as you use them. When they are used up, only the eraser head remains.

Recent pencils I have received have been made from recycled denim and recycled money.  The ones featured here are made of 30% post consumer waste products.

Let’s take a new look at pencils. They just are not for children any more.

Did you know that money was being recycled? I didn’t, so I wikied and googled. Apparently, the Federal Reserve decided many years ago that shredded old money was filling up too many landfills. Out of circulation shredded money has been used for years in in roofing tiles, particle board, fuel pellets, stationery and packing materials. Am I the only one who didn’t know this?
